Photoshop PSD image corrupted with vertical bars after save.

I opened the 382MB file to make a simple change, desaturate an area that was distracting. I made the changes and saved my work. Upon examining the saved image it was corrupted (see attachment). Upon reloading all layers were affected except the original Background layer. I have the original image my edits and layers are lost.
