Is there a Photoshop Quick Reference Guide that tells what each of the items are on the left side of the workspace? (And for other tools in Creative Cloud).

You can also turn on Rich Tool Tips in Preferences > Tools.

You'll find it too intrusive once you get used to things, but as an experienced user I still work with Show Tool Tips turned on. This will bring up a tool's name when you hover the cursor over it.
