Photoshop Slow to Launch After Windows 11 Update — No Splash Screen, Delayed Open

I've recently updated my computer from Win10 to Win11. Also updated all the apps through creative cloud. I'm running a quick computer however only Photoshops takes nearly 3-4mins to open. After clicking on the icon, I've checked in the task manager, it shows in "background processes" first, then after a while opens. The splash screen doesn’t appear either. It only seems to be Photoshop too, other programmes such as InDesign and After effects opens fine. When Photoshop eventully opens and you click on a psd. file to open, it still takes a while. I know I can drag and drop in the window (this works fine). I've tried to uninstall and reinstall but get the same issue. Also tried an older verison.

Anyone else have this problem?

Okay, I fought with this for a while now, and Windows Update always brought it back even after hours of uninstalls, cleaners, deleted preferences, etc. Infuriatingly  enough, it turns out it’s the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service getting in the way and causing a timeout. I learned this by finding a DCOM 10029 error in Event Viewer>Windows Logs>System.

All the WIA service does is monitor for attached scanners, etc, and I don’t have any of those consistently. I was able to set the service to manual start in Services, which should keep it from reappearing in the future. In my instance it was also stuck in ‘stopping’ mode, so I couldn’t stop or restart it.

If you run into this you need to launch PowerShell in admin mode, and run the command “sc.exe queryex stisvc” and look for the line that says PID. There should be a 4 digit number. Then run “taskkill /f /pid ####” where #### is the process ID (PID) of the offending WIA service. Once that’s done Photoshop will show the splash screen and load instantly like you expect.

I hope this helps all the others who have wasted countless hours on this problem like I did.

Did you try resetting preferences as suggested? Also, what are the specs of your system?

@martinj54220288 try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset
