Question

Photoshop V27.11.0 Mac problem with generator

Generator error message.

Mac OS V27.0.1

Silicon Mac

Photoshop V27.11.0

I have read Adobe’s help pages regarding this matter but I am somewhat confused on some aspects.

The Generator fails to start and you don’t need to use it

Deselecting enable generator does stop the issue but I do use ‘export as’ feature.

Security Software Blocks Generator

Firewall - Photoshop - all incoming connections allowed.

Make sure port 8010 is open for the Generator.

On macOS, allow the node process at /Applications/Adobe Photoshop <version>/Adobe Photoshop <version>.app/Contents/MacOS/node.

Package Contents> node (exec) - from ‘node info’ no idea if it’s already being allowed or not, neither how to allow node process if not being allowed unless ‘all incoming connections allowed’, allows node?

Add Photoshop to the list of allowed applications.

Photoshop has full disk, files, files and folders, also device control and data access.

Plug ins - I don't have any third party plug-ins.

Generator Errors Occur on Mac Silicon

Changed Photoshop to ‘open with Rosetta’ and ‘enabled generator’ in settings then restarted Photoshop.
Photoshop loaded without generator error message issue, however, I don’t want to run Photoshop in Rosetta!

Not sure how I can resolve this issue?

Is it worth uninstalling Photoshop (and any files left over) then reinstalling, or has this been tried and not resolved the issue?

Hi, thanks for reaching out and for such a detailed post. Please try the steps shared by our Expert, CORCTON34033231.

If you continue to experience the same behavior, please share the generator logs along with the System info from Photoshop. To share the System Info, please go to the Help menu in Photoshop, then System Info, and copy the text. You can share the info with us by either pasting it as a reply here or in a text file and sharing the file with us.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have by pure chance, possibly resolved the issue as follows:

    1. Mac OS Photoshop app info panel select open using Rosetta - left ‘enable generator’selected in Photoshop settings.

Launch Photoshop - Rosetta requested. Reluctantly installed Rosetta. Photoshop ‘very slow’ to load - generator error message didn’t appear this time and ‘export as’ option working.

    2. Closed Photoshop went back into app info and deselected ‘open using Rosetta’. Left Photoshop ‘enable generator’ on.

Launched Photoshop which loaded almost instantaneously (as expected) and to my surprise, the generator error message issue didn’t materialise.

I am hoping that this hasn’t caused any issues further down the line and will monitor the situation.

Hi Nick, thanks for listing what you've already checked.

The official troubleshooting steps for this Generator error are below — please try them in order:

    1. Security software blocks Generator: add Photoshop to the list of allowed applications, make sure port 8010 is open for Generator, and on macOS also allow the node process itself at /Applications/Adobe Photoshop <version>/Adobe Photoshop <version>.app/Contents/MacOS/node. Restart Photoshop, then test File > Export > Export As.

    2. A third-party plug-in conflicts with Generator: move third-party plug-in folders out of the Plug-ins/Generator folder to a temporary "Disabled Generator Plug-ins" folder (leave the default Image Assets plug-in in place), start Photoshop, and if the error is gone, add them back one at a time, restarting after each.

    3. If you do not need Generator: Photoshop > Settings > Plug-ins, deselect Enable Generator, then restart. Note that selecting Export As turns Generator on again.

    4. Generator logs show startup errors: check the most recent log in /Users/<username>/Library/Logs/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop <version>/Generator.

    5. Generator errors occur on Apple Silicon: quit Photoshop, in Finder open Applications, Control-click Adobe Photoshop > Get Info, select Open using Rosetta, then start Photoshop and test. If the error persists, provide the Generator logs when contacting Adobe Support.

Hope this helps — please let us know what the Generator log shows if it still fails.

HI, Thank you for taking the time to reply. I did try the official trouble shooting steps in order before I posted here.

‘Make sure port 8010 is open for Generator, and on macOS also allow the node process itself’

There is no option as far as my limited knowledge is concerned to specifically achieve this other than to ensure that in Mac OS Privacy and security settings Photoshop has full disk, files and folders, also device control and data access?

Where would I find port 8010?

P.S. Allow Node Firewall won't let me add the node exec after hitting the + option as this refuses to let me access Photoshop app contents>Mac OS> node which I can access through a finder window.
