Photoshop wants to use OpenGL but is fully locked up??

@D FosseI wanted to use the rectangular selection tool to crop the image.  I went back just now to try it again and take careful note of what happened — it worked as expected.  I have no idea what I might have clicked on indavertently to get past the problem but I'm going to try working on my image and see how it goes.

Regarding preferences, there are a zillion things and I know what only a few of them mean.

Maybe this was all a snipe hunt.  I would still like to learn how to opdate drivers.

Radeon HD 7570

Hi Kevin,  I updated the drivers several years ago.  All I remember is that it was a complex process and that I should have deleted the current drivers before installing new ones.  I got thru that but I'm 86 years old and my technical skills have greatly diminished over the last few years.  If you can give me step-by-step guidance I will give it a try.  I posted mt System Info in response to another reply.  Thanks, JRS

The first thing to try is to reset preferences. Corrupt preferences can give strange and inexplicable symptoms. Preferences are rewritten on every application exit, so are vulnerable to corruption from irregular shutdowns.

The message itself must be a legacy message. The OpenGL framework for graphics code isn't really used anymore - Photoshop's entire GPU codebase should by now have been completely migrated to the OS-native APIs, DirectX on Windows and Metal on Mac. Perhaps a few small remnants of OpenGL code remain.
