Question

Photoshop won't let me do anything. At all.

So I've had this problem in the past, and that was remedied by updating or reinstalling Photoshop, however, this time around, there are no updates to be had, and reinstalling did nothing.

So here's what's happening: Photoshop won't do anything. It won't open images, it won't open PSD files, by the off chance it does, none of the tools work past say... an inch of my screen. They just completely freeze, and have about a 10% chance of the changes they were supposed to make to stay. Most of the time say I was using a brush tool and I draw a line about 5 inches long, it'd stop anywhere between 1-2 inches and then completely disappear without a trace. And this is on simple edits I make to images that only have one layer, so it's not like I selected the wrong layer.

The layer buttons don't even work, I can't add layers, or do anything. It's like the system just locks up. I CAN do things such as open panels such as the color range panel, and I can change brush color, but the tools to apply these changes just. don't. work.

And that's even IF the image manages to open in the first place.

I would appreciate any help that I can get, I've reset tools, reinstalled Photoshop, tried different files, I got no clue what to do.

Windows or Mac system?

Is this Photoshop CC? If so, did you try the CC Cleaner tool yet?

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Anything else running in the background? Photoshop is a somewhat system-intensive program (especially on installed RAM). Anything that's not Photoshop-related shouldn't be running.

Do you keep your system on 24/7? If so, have you tried a system restart? (Relatedly (is that word?), how long has it been since this system's been formatted? It might be time to employ a brute-force method and reformat if nothing else works. This is a last-ditch effort, though, and not usually for the faint of heart since it requires planning and backup of mission-critical documents.)

I am using Photoshop CC on Windows and I do turn off my computer regularly.

I've tried running photoshop both with and without other processes running, though in the past I never had trouble with photoshop and other processes running at the same time.

I am trying the cleaner tool now.

Tell us about your computer - how much RAM, etc. Does it meet the minimum system requirements? and, what version of PS are you using?

My computer should go beyond the system requirements, I'll attach my dxdiag specs to this post.

And I am using Photoshop CC.

I turn off my computer regularly, so it is not constantly running.
