Phtoshop crashing after opening

Hello, recently Photoshop has started crashing after I open it . I will open Photoshop, it will stay open for about a minute then close with no error message.

I am on a Windows laptop

I have tried the following things to fix it:

- Resetting preferences to default

- Checking my GPU is compatible (it is)

- Changing preferences to not use GPU... When I did this it would still crash, but when I reopened Photoshop the setting would still be on, so I'm not sure if it applied properly?

- Updating Photoshop

- Updating other Adobe apps

- Restarting the laptop

- Uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop

- Uninstalling and reinstalling Creative Cloud

If anyone could help me out  it would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Thanks for sharing this, @catherine_5368. One of the Crash reports points to NTDLL.DLL, which is related to Nvidia Drivers.

Please perform the steps listed here to perform a clean reinstallation of Nvidia drivers: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I have a similar issue with many attempts to fix. Adobe tech support ended up un-installing my extensive collection of actions, so I have to sart over. It still opens and closes in a blink. So far, I've been able to click to re-open, sometimes without visible tools though.

Hello! Are you refering to 'clear activity history', or somethin else when you say 'un-installing... collection of actions'?

Hey, @catherine_5368. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

I couldn't find crash reports submitted with the account you've signed in to the community with. If you see a crash dialogue, submit it with your Adobe ID. Check here for more steps: https://adobe.ly/3Wpjx0B

Try these steps to get Photoshop to behave as expected:

  • Do you use any plugins? If yes, try and hold the SHIFT key when launching Photoshop to skip loading any plugins.
  • Try booting the Windows device in Safe Mode with networking to check how Photoshop behaves: https://adobe.ly/43BzvZ3

Has this started to happen since the recent update? Please test and confirm if the issue exists with Photoshop (Beta). You can get Photoshop (beta) from the Creative Cloud > Apps tab > Beta Apps section.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Hi Sameer!

A crash dialogue didn't appear when Photoshop 'closed'. I tried Photoshop Beta and it behaved the same way, except a crash dialogue did appear (I submitted a crash report).  Quick side not the link you sent with your crash dialogue statement doesn't work for me...

I have also notice that After Effects is crashing almost immediately after opening.

I do not have any plugins.

I tried both Photoshop and After Effect in Windows Safe mode and they seemed to work as normal.

Thank you,

Catherine

Another note is that Prenier Pro also crashes, but Illustrator seems to be working fine
