Question

Placing Illustrator files into Photoshop place inconsistant percentages

This has been happening to me for a long time. When placing vector objects either through File > Place link or Copy > Paste I get uneven %.

I usually do File > Place > Option > Bounding box.

I've discovered that if the illustator file has an artboard that is larger than the graphic in it, I can get correct % by choosing File > Place > Option > Media box (or any choice that uses the Illustrator file's artboard instead of artwork. This bugs me because then when moving/resizing the placed object, I don't have an accurate or easy way to know what size the object is.

And if the Illustrator artboard is the same size as the object then all bets are off and it seems like no matter what I get uneven %.

Photoshop 26.2

Illustrator 29.1

Mac Studio 2022

OS 15.0.1

I'm not sure what you mean about the %. Could you provide screen shots?

The basics are that if you place an object in Photoshop, it should be sized to fit in the document. If the document is larger than the object, the object will come in at 100%. If the document isn't large enough, it will be reduced so that it fits within the document bounds.

This size relationship can also be influenced by the document settings (dimensions as well as resolution) in relationship to the source document. If the documents are really sized to each other, the behavior may not come out as expected.

But it's hard to say what's happening without more detailed information.

i included an example of different objects placed into a photoshop file and the percentages (%) that photoshop placed them at.

I should be able to place any vector object into any photoshop file and have it placed proportionallt whether that be 2% x 2% or 50% x 50% or 76.54% x 76.54%. Just not something weird like 100.9% x 100.64% or 100.9% x 100.64%

@bradg24267645 If I am understanding correctly, I used a file that was 5.385" x 5.385" SVG file. If I place the SVG file into a document size that is bigger than the SVG, it will be placed at 100% size. If I place the SVG into a document size that is smaler than the SVG, Photoshop will automatically resized my artwork depending on the height or width and will resize the SVG accordingly. This usually maintains the SVG's aspect ratio (proportions).

To determine the size of the SVG, I use the Properties Panel (Windows - Properties). Measurements is based on what I choose; so if my rulers are on, Command R, I can place my mouse in the rulers, and change to the dimensions from Pixels, Inches, Points to Percent.

Normally, in the past, I can select the file, and Get Info (Command I) and in the Get Info, I would be able to see the size of the dimensions. This works on images quite well. I just noticed, it no longer shows for vector files.

Is this a bug? I don't think so, I think Adobe built Photoshop that way so that it is intelligent enough to place the artwork in Photoshop and automatically resize the vector artwork to fit within the document's dimensions while maintaining the SVG's aspect ratio. Maybe, I am so used to this?

In the past, you could elect to place a vector file as pixels, paths, and other options, but that appears it is gone in my Photoshop (or maybe I don't remember correctly?!)

Sorry but your reply doesn't really seem like it relates to my issue.
