Question

Please can cropping one specific layer instead of the whole canvas be more simple. If I want to crop the whole canvas I should be able to click and drag all the layers I want this to apply to. The default option should be to crop individual assets

Cropping individual layers as a default option and if I want to crop the whole canvas then we should select all layers.

I’m finding it difficult to follow steps for cropping a single image and feel this should be the default option when looking to crop something.

@LollyCheeka_Damsam4437 Great point! It’s likely how all th apps were built from Photoshop to Affinity software. If you change the canvas size, you change the file size and the final output dimensions.

I was thinking, could you not do this:

    1. Make a selection (say a rectangle)
    2. Do a Select Inverse (Command Shift I for the MAC, Control Shift I for the PC)
    3. Hit delete
    4. Re-do a Select Inverse (Command Shift I for the MAC, Control Shift I for the PC)
    5. Your layer or specifically the image has been cropped smaller

Granted, what I just did was remived pixels from the file. You could masked it just in case, if you need to those pixels back. So instead of Inverse and Delete, you could just click the Mask button (the rectangle with a circle in it) at the bottom of your layers panel.
