Printer not printing colors correctly from Photoshop — how to run a proper test page?

Hi, everyone.

I’m having an issue with my printer when printing directly from Adobe Photoshop. The colors look washed out, and some lines are missing. I want to confirm whether the problem is with Photoshop color profiles or the printer itself.

Before troubleshooting, I’m trying to print test page, but I'm not sure which method gives the most accurate diagnosis.

It explains how to analyze test page patterns and color issues. But I’m not sure if Photoshop uses the same print color pipeline as Windows test pages.

So my questions are:

  • What’s the best way to print a color-accurate test page using Adobe apps?
  • Does Photoshop manage color differently compared to OS-level printer test pages?
  • Any recommended settings (ICC profiles, color management options, etc.) to check?

Thanks in advance!

If lines are missing on your print, then the print heads may need a clean.

I'd use a known photo based composite test image with 'memory colours', There's one here:

please go here and download the Adobe RGB testimage: https://www.colourmanagement.net/downloads_listing/

it would, though perhaps help you  to assess whether the printers working well.

You will ideally need colour managed pipeline end-to-end,

i.e. a calibrated and profiled display system,

good room lighting to view it in (i.e. very subdued light).

For that you need a hardware display calibrator.

You also need a good ICC profile for the chosen media, for your specific printer model (and for the loaded inks).

have a read up here:

I hope this helps
