PS Actions - how to remove a stop

Since PS introduced the new 2026 Actions panel I cannot find a way to remove a stop.

My actions were created years ago where there was a checkbox besides every step to include a stop or not. I had usually a stop checked, especially with save and close … in order to decide where I want it to be saved to.

But using an action as a batch from Bridge I don’t want the stop to avoid to selecting location, etc every time. I want it to go without intreruption, saving (and closing) to the location determined in Bridge > Photoshop >Batch > select folder.

In the past I just opened the first image in PS and unchecked the stop in the action. This allowed the selected location in Bridge Batch processing to override the original location in the action

Now, in the new actions pallet I cannot find a way to uncheck the stop that’s in my action and in general … to make Bridge Batch settings to override..

Anyone, please!

Thanks

If you are using the new Actions panel, you might want to change to the previous panel:

Actions panel > menu (upper right) > Classic Actions

    Thank you Jane,

I wasn’t even aware of that option.

Even though I found the solution in the new action panel, the easiest thing is to switch back if the new one does’nt do much for you.

That’s what I do! Glad this helps as we learn the new system.

    Amendment:

People advise to remove the stop … being a step in the 2026 version.

In the previous version of PS actions had checkmarks beside each step to make a stop.

It was NOT a separate step … just to check or uncheck a checkmark.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this.

My actions were created years ago and, of course, work just fine in the new actions panel.

But they still stop at, e.g. at save, even though looking at “Edit Action” there is NO step called stop.

It seems you keep calling things a "stop" that are not a stop.

If you should not understand the new actions panel you can switch to the classic actions panel display.

Edit: I just saw that @jane-e already mentioned that.

To remove a stop (or any other step), in action edit mode hover over that step to reveal the row of option buttons for that step. Those buttons include the ellipsis button (…), a menu that includes the Delete Step command. Choose that command.

That is the same menu where you can insert items such  as a stop, menu command, a conditional…

If you only wanted to disable that step, notice that the same button row has the checkbox, next to the (…) menu button.

The redesign might not be what we’re used to, but I think it makes the edit options for a step a lot more immediately accessible than having to push the mouse all the way up to the panel menu every time.

    Hi Conrad,

there seems to be a major confusion.

Yes, I see the “Delete Step” option.

However, in previous versions of PS a stop was NOT a sperate step … it was just a checkmark besides a step.

My actions were created years ago and a stop is still there but NOT as a separate step.

    So, in other word:

In my action I have no step called stop, but the action stops every time at save and asks where and at what quality level.

Screenshots: my current steps / save … old version of stop checkmarks

PS: I had some success using the pause icon :  “Override actions Save As commands”. Maybe Pause is what is meant?? When this is unchecked, the location designated in Bridge Batch works … without stopping every time.

    Cheers

Oh, I see. Those are three different things, then:

    • Stop: Displays a dialog box with text instructions entered by the action maker (does not display settings).
    • Check mark: Unchecking it skips that step when the action is run. Does not control any settings.
    • Show Dialog Box During Action Playback: Pauses the action to let you enter options for a feature that offers a dialog box.

It sounds like you want the one represented by the small, round button in the demo below, the one labeled Show Dialog Box During Action Playback in this old vs new comparison:

in the old version, by unchecking the stop in save allowed the batch processing in Bridge to save it to the assigned destination … without stopping with every image.

It basically means to temporarily eliminate the original save location in the action and the let the location in Bridge Batch dominate. If not doing so the location and the stop in the action always dominate.

I never suggested to delete the stop … just want it to uncheck it temporarily to let Bridge Batch not being interrupted.

You say: ”you need not delete it, you can uncheck it”  Where? there is no button to do so.

On the other hand, I may have figured it out.

    • In Edit Action I unchecked “Show dialog during action playback” (why is it labeled like that???)
    • In Bridge > Batch I checked “Override actions Save As commands”, after assigning a folder above.

    This seams to work.

I can only say: a very simple feature made unnecessarily complicated.

.. the result of over-ambitious young developers to justify their job …?? :-)

    Cheers

    Thank you c.pfaffenbichler.

But I figured that out too.

Then what in Edit Action? I see the steps of the action > I see the step “save” … but no way to eliminate a stop in that step.

The are “save”, “toggle step” “show dialog”, “edit recorded value”

Only “Add a stop” … nothing to delete an existing stop

Can you please be more specific.

    Thanks

So you are not actually talking about a »Stop« but a »Save As«?

If you are talking about a »Stop« you need not delete it, you can uncheck it.

    Please post meaningful screenshots.

One can set a Destination Folder in the Batch-dialog and forego saving in the Action itself.
