PS v27.8 Will Not Open

I updated to PS v27.8 and it will not open, no matter how I try. I've restarted my desktop, tried opening directly, tried opening a file, tried opening through Creative Cloud, and I only get a Crash report to fill out. I did the upgrade a couple days ago (Sunday 6/21/2026), and haven’t been able to open Photoshop since. I REALLY need to be able to use it ASAP.

Is PS v27.8 having some known issues??

I updated my video card driver (and a couple others), and did some system cleanup. I’ve still been afraid to try to work on the Visual C++ (I don’t have more than basic-level computer skills, and playing with Microsoft bits and pieces is terrifying). However, after the things I did yesterday, I was again able to open PS 2024, but still not the upgrade. This morning, nothing will open again 😣

“I updated to PS v27.8” ← here exactly is where you made a mistake

Hey @Denise15B9 I had the exact same problem today, my god it was frustrating. What worked was installing an older version of Photoshop. I know it’s not ideal, but it’s the only way I was able to get back into Photoshop. I chose 27.40. This can be done by going into your desktop Creative Cloud app, going to Apps > Navigating to the Photoshop app, clicking the three dots on it and going to ‘other versions’. Hope this helps if you weren’t able to troubleshoot with newest version.

Which steps you’ve tried to solve the issue?

Do you see (and try) this?

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 9 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI

Creative Cloud > Apps > Photoshop > click three dots (that’s what it is on mac, not sure for Windows, but there will be an option like this) > Other Options > choose 27.4
That one worked for me

@Denise15B9

I ran into the same issue. I tried updating my graphics card driver, and now it works perfectly.

That is probably something I CAN do! Will try it.

Try updating Windows, in particular Visual C++:

Oh dear. I just checked the instructions and it’s intimidating for an older person who doesn’t ever play with my Windows settings! Windows was installed and set up for me by someone else. I have no idea what some of the terms mean 😥

For reinstalling the Visual C packages follow the steps below.

  • In the Creative Cloud app, press CTRL + ALT + T (Win) to launch Creative Cloud Troubleshooter & select 'Close Creative Cloud and related processes' > click on Go.
  • Go to 'Add or Remove programs' in Windows, search & find all the installations of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (all years).
  • Uninstall them completely. Even if there is an option to repair them, Uninstall all the existing MSVC++ packages.
  • Download a fresh package of Latest Supported installers for MSVC++ from this link: . https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist
  • Right-click the downloaded file and select Extract All.
  • Reinstall all packages (32bit & 64bit) & then restart the computer.
