PSD files are opening flattened

Lately when I open PSD files in Photoshop (25.6.1), they open with the layers flattened.  If I close the file (after making no edits), I am asked if I want to save the changes.  I say no and then reopen the file and magically all the layers are there again.  A bit of a nuisance.  Anyone know what's going on here?

Thank you very much. I think I have figured it out. When I open the file
into Photoshop from LR, somehow the default option got changed from Open
Original to Open Copy With Lightroom Edits and I was blindly accepting the
default. When I go back to Open Original, everything is in order. Silly
mistake. Thanks again.

Hi @bsomberg!

Thanks for reaching out. Could you share a bit more about what’s happening? How are you currently saving your files? Also, just to double-check—are Layers enabled?

If you haven’t already, try updating to the latest version of Photoshop (26.6.1) and see if that helps resolve the issue.

Let me know how it goes!

Best,
Alek
