PSD files keep opening in Fresco

I have an issue and I don't seem to get rid of it.

When I open a .PSD file (Windows 11) it will open in Fresco.
The icon of the file is Photoshop.

When I say PSD's have to be opened with another program, I have to look for Photoshop.exe and even then, it doesnt work and doesn't show the Photoshop thumbnail.

Anyone with a solution? 🙂

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop. That should return the file associations back to Photoshop. Windows works on an last in, first out model. So whatever application that was last installed and wants PSD assocaitions gets them.

Thank you!
Don't know if it was the best solution, but it worked 😉

The issue happens if you install Fresco after Photoshop. If it happens again, search up default settings, search for Photoshop, and switch the default file to "PSD." If you can't find Photoshop when searching, it's because Fresco was installed after you installed Photoshop (so search for Fresco and change the default files on "PSD" to Photoshop).

Hello @jane-e ,

Thanks for the reply. That is what I already tried. Should be straight foreward, but like I said in my first post, that still doesnt work. When selecting Photoshop as default, it doesnt work.
But I was hoping more people had this after the last Adobe update. I'll try to find a Windows community than can help me out 🙂

@Mattie_d

This is not a Photoshop question; it is a Microsoft Windows issue. Windows looks at the extension to determine which application to open the file with. You can change the file association in Window OS. Details here in this Microsoft Help file:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-default-programs-in-windows-e5d82cad-17d1-c53b-3505-f10a32e1894d

I hope this helps,

Jane

 This is the thumbnail after selection Photoshop.exe as program to use. If I open it now, Windows asks me what program to use. So it doesnt start Photoshop.exe
