Question

QuickShape drawing mode in Photoshop - like in Procreate

Hey,

I’ve been using Photoshop for over ten years. Few years ago I also started using Procreate on an iPad, because it feels more intuitive and natural for drawing.
Many artists with a similar background and experience, that I talked to feel that Photoshop is missing a feature that would make digital illustration much more convenient and faster.

Problem:

One of Procreate’s nicest tools is QuickShape. You draw a rough line or shape and hold your stylus then stroke snaps into a perfect straight line, circle, rectangle or other shape.
You can then tap an option to edit the points and adjust the shape without switching to the Pen tool. This makes it easy to draw precise shapes quickly.
In Photoshop the closest option is shift‑click for straight lines or using shape tools and path editing, which in my opinion is much more less intuitive.

Solution:

It would be great to have a QuickShape drawing mode in Photoshop so you can hold a drawn stroke to snap it into a clean shape and/or optionally edit its points like in Procreate. Such a feature would sit alongside the existing shape tools, not replace them, so the current way of drawing shapes would still be available when needed.

Best Regards,

I want this more than anything in photoshop and as an illustrator I feel like I’m facing a really tough decision to leave photoshop for procreate because of the gestures for “Auto Shape” and straight lines. I understand you can create a basic shape path in photoshop but that’s so irrelevant to the issue I think that “solution” needs to be tossed out completely.
I want to snap to shapes and lines using my custom brush with my desired pressure. I couldn’t believe how much better I felt and could draw using procreate after this feature. I genuinely get a sick pit in my stomach thinking about the fact that I have to move all my Adobe files into Dropbox and move to procreate. This feature is more than a tiny one, this feature can absolutely make or break your growth and successes as a graphic designer. I talk with lots of very successful illustrators who work for Nike, Pacsun, Under Armour, etc on a regular basis and there’s one thing they ALL have in common. Procreate. Procreate. Procreate.

the auto shape features are one of the very first things they use when creating art, they can’t live without it. They would never work without it.

why should I? Hoping Adobe wants to save photoshop enough for this, very soon because everyday I feel like I’m shooting myself and my art in the foot for staying here. I would be making much better art with this tool it’s not even funny, it’s stressful.
I just submitted a feature request for this as a last cry to Adobe before I finally move over

@adrianszustakowski I personally haven't made the switch nor have the urgency to use Procreate only because I love Photoshop! But what you have propose does make sense in making life easier!
