Quit and other Menu items greyed out

Since updating to version 27.6.0, the "Quit" shortcut has been grayed out, and the program cannot be closed "manually" either. I have to "force quit" it completely. Is this a new feature?

Yesterday and this morning, I couldn't quit neither with the keyboard shortcut nor via the menu. Now, suddenly, it works. 😮

New version of Photoshop is now frequently displaying a bug that makes all options under FILE greyed out.
You can’t do anything. You can’t even open a file by dragging the file icon to PS icon on the dock (in Mac).
Also can’t quit via key command or via app menu.
Have to force quit like a caveman and reopen the app. Happened two times today already.
    Here’s a screenshot.

I’m on a 2025 iMac, fully up to date. This never happened in previous versions so fix this please.

    Great.

Have you tried resetting Photoshop preferences? Which version are you on? What are the specs of your machine?

Solution that seems to be working for me is to untick Enable Modern User Interface in

    Settings > Technology Preview

Sounds like an option one would want to turn on anyway ;-)

In the last two versions (27.6 - 27.7), Photoshop will randomly stall when you double-click a file to open it. If you’re in the Mac Finder and double-click a file that should open in Photoshop, the app comes to the foreground as if it is about to open the file, but never does. It’s not frozen; you can click around in it. If you go to File only “Open Recent” is available and that still doesn’t work. And it won’t even quit normally. You have to force quit the app until the next random time it decides to not open a file.

Yes, I believe this is a known bug. Disable “Modern UI” in the preferences.

This STILL keeps happening - M4 macbook Air - Photoshop 27.6.0

After a certain time the menus grey out - you can’t open files - recent files does nothing nor double clicking an image to open. You can’t quit so have to force quit. Then it’s back to normal until about an hour later the same problems.

I have to force quit and reopen photoshop.

I’ve tried re-installing Photoshop and resetting Prefs - yet the problem re-occurs.

Is this known bug that needs fixing?

Hey, @holger.volz. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. I've checked this, and I can use the keyboard shortcut and click the Quit button to close Photoshop.

Beyond Photoshop, even without Photoshop, some macOS menus appear the same way; however, the exact keyboard shortcuts still work.

    Thanks!
