Raw and DNG files from a particular folder open in Camera Raw but not Photoshop.

Question

I have a folder of older (2018) RW2 files that will open in camera raw and allow adjustment, but then they will not open into Photoshop regardless of whether I ask for them to open as smart objects or not. I converted them all to dng and still get the same behavior. Jpeg and psd images from the folder open properly. Since I have other folders of images from the same camera from about the same date that open properly, I tried moving some of the "misbehaving" files to one of these folders and now they work normally. Looking at the various folders with get info, they all seem to have the same permissions, etc. Any thoughts about what might be happening here? I tried resetting Camera Raw Preferences, but that didn't help.

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry you're experiencing this—definitely an unusual issue. In addition to the helpful suggestions already shared, could you please confirm where the folder is currently located? (For example: network drive, external hard drive, or local HDD.)

It would also help if you could try moving the entire folder to your desktop and then attempting to open the RAW or DNG files from there. Let us know what happens, we’re here to help you get this resolved.
