I have the same issue but there is NO italicized T in the character styles menu. I cannot de-select this. 

Anyone have a suggestion?

    That's not the Character panel,  that's the Properties panel. The Character panel looks like this:

    Thanks everyone - that solved the problem. I was not in the pop-up character panel. Once I opened it I was able to de-select the italic T and now the font style is back to normal.

    I have had this problem for several weeks. All my fonts are italicized, regardless of font style or which font is used. 

     

    This is Open Sans Extra Bold.

     

    I have tried the following without success:

     -  De-selecting the italics T in the character panel - there isn't one.

    - Resetting the tools in Preferences
    - Checking to see that an italic version of the font isn't selected
    - Testing multiple fonts - all fonts have the same issue

     

    Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Please show us the Font Window with Type Tool selected and text highlighted.  It's possible your font variant is not normal.

    Licia, you have not given us enough information yet. Please open the Character panel from the Window menu. Select some of your text with the Type tool and share a screenshot that includes your selected text and the entire Character panel.

    I've merged your duplicate posts. Please post once.

     

    In your screenshot, you are showing the Type Options section of the Properties panel. Please show the Character panel asked for earlier with some of the text selected.
