Remove Tool Extremely Slow with Masked Layer

Not sure if this is a bug, but seems like a weird issue that keeps popping up.

 

If I am working with the Remove Tool on a blank layer above a Smart Object layer that has an active mask that is masking out the background of an image (see video below), the Remove Tool is INCREDIBLY slow.  If I simply turn off the layer mask on the Smart Object layer, it immediately samples and works almost instantaneously. It isn't a huge deal, but I don't know why the mask being active would greatly reduce the efficiency of the Remove Tool? Does it work better with more information around it or less?

 

I did a screen recording below so you can clearly see what is happening. 

 

 

Photoshop 25.5.1 running on a 

Macbook Pro M1 MAX on Sonoma 14.1.2

    Hey, @adelucci. Welcome to the Photoshop Ecosystem. I'll move this to discussions for now.

     

    I can reproduce this; however, this is expected behavior, as repeating the same removal action does not require recomputing from scratch and may appear relatively faster. 

     

    Does the difference appear when you do the second action on a separate document? Let us know how it goes.
