Resizing image and layer masks

I have an image placed, with a layer/clipping mask around. I want to resize the image within the mask, not the image AND the mask. However, everytime I click on the image portion of the layer, it resizes both the image and the mask. I have this placed as an embedded image, and yes I could go into the original and resize there, I don't want to do it this way and edit the original, I should be able to resize within the mask itself without having to resize the original.

Yes, and I have used it for that, I just don't remember the layer masks being changed to the object by default.

Not sure TBH, it's not a feature I use very often.
Just to check; you do know that you can chain link multiple layers together to move and resize as a bundle?
