Engraving portraits on CNC machines requires a separate plugin with features such as: spotted stone texture overlay; engraving preview; layers with different frequency channels of engraving points, for ease of retouching. And of course, the AI function for creating portrait models.

I haven’t found one plugin that covers the stone texture, frequency layers and AI portrait work in one go. For the first prep pass, I’ve been using this free browser tool for slate: https://makersarmy.com/tools/image-preparation. It has a slate preset, tonal controls, inversion and dithering. It won’t give you Photoshop frequency layers or a true engraving preview, but it can get the image into a cleaner starting state before the manual retouching.
