Saved files get relocated

I don't know if this is a feature or a bug but:

When I bring an image from Lightroom CC into Photoshop and do my final touches to the image, I intentionally save it as a TIF in a new, separate folder in a different location than original photo the RAW image was in. The problem is that when I close that file in Photoshop after saving the TIF file, the TIF file gets magically relocated back to the same folder as the RAW file, despite having saved it using the "Save As" option in a new, separate folder.

This is incredibly annoying. Help? Feature? Bug?

This isn't Photoshop, it's the background Lightroom script that runs integration between the apps.

If you "Save" (not "Save As") from Photoshop, it goes back to the original folder - even if it was previously saved to a different location.

It will keep doing this as long as Lightroom/Lightroom Classic is still open. You need to use Save As every time, you can't use Save.

Yes, I think this is hugely annoying as I never keep raw files and RGB master files in the same folder. But I've learnt to live with it and take my precautions.

@jsmilanicforum honestly, I think that's default. I know when I work with students images, it would try and re-save again. And I just tell my students don't click on re-save or it will over-write what you saved. essentially, when you open the file, it's a temp file; The goal is that you never have to worry about where the file is on your hard drive; it just "appears" back in Lightroom next to your RAW file, usually stacked as a second version.

Instead, for your Lightroom, I would suggst 'Export' the file. You can set up the Export parameters in Photoshop preferences (command K):
