Saved to computer files on Mac not opening

Last week everything worked perfectly. Went to start using photoshop files that I saved to my computer (Mac) and when I try to open them I am getting an endless spinning wheel that sometimes stops and starts as though it's struggling to load. If I try loading a JPEG or PDF that works ok. It's just psd files. This happened before I updated psd, and also before updating OS to latest macOS 14 Sonoma version. I've uninstalled PS and Creative cloud and re installed but still the same issue. Any files ps files stored on CC cloud open ok. I've also cleaned Mac and removed junk, old files and uninstalled any unused apps. Just nothing works. Any help would be much appreciated as I have many saved files I need that are for clients. Thanks
