Question

Screen flashing black when scrolling image on Photoshop

NVidia RTX 5070 connected to a Samsung Odyssey G80SD display (4K@240hz / HDR)

Intel i7-14700K

Photoshop 27.10.0

When I open Photoshop the display flickers for a moment to black. The same occurs when scrolling around any image in Photoshop. If Photoshop is full screen or windowed the whole display flashes on and off.

This only began recently (past ~3 months) and only occurs on the Samsung Odyssey display. A small 1080p display @ 60hz non-HDR plugged into the same GPU does not have an issue.

Turning off GPU processing stops the issue, but that doesn’t solve the problem as I need some GPU based features.

Anyone know of any solutions?

Thanks for the detailed specs — and for already testing with GPU processing off, which is a useful isolation step.

Please try Adobe's built-in GPU compatibility check, in this order:

    1. In Photoshop, select Help > GPU Compatibility.

    2. Check if the Microsoft OpenCL/OpenGL Compatibility Pack is installed, if you see the message that your graphics processor is incompatible.

    3. If that compatibility pack is installed, uninstall it and restart your computer.

    4. Launch Photoshop and check if the issue is resolved.

    More detail here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshoot-tools-resources/check-gpu-compatibility.html

If it still flickers, it would help to know your exact GPU driver version.

    Compatibility check shows the following:
Pass:    DirectX available Pass:    DirectX feature level 12.2 available, feature level 12.0 required Pass:    Above required VRAM (11944 MB of 1500 MB required) GPU Detected: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (NVIDIA)

    GPU driver is 621.01

It’s worth noting that the NVidia app shows zero GPU usage with Photoshop running; and any scrolling on screen has an immediate increase in CPU usage, and still no GPU or VRAM usage.

I’ll give the removal of the compatibility pack a try.
