Question

Seam artifacts appear in Pattern Fill when using rotation (angle), and become more pronounced when combined with 80% scaling.

Product and version : Adobe Photoshop 27.1.0

Operating system : Windows 11 Professionnel

Steps to reproduce :

  • Create or open a seamless texture (e.g. 4096×4096 px, generated in Substance Designer or equivalent).
  • Define the image as a pattern (Edit → Define Pattern).
  • Create a new document.
  • Add a Pattern Fill layer (Layer → New Fill Layer → Pattern).
  • Set the following parameters :
    • Angle: 135°
    • Scale: 80%
  • Observe the pattern seams at tile boundaries.

Expected result : The pattern should remain perfectly seamless regardless of rotation angle or scaling, with no visible artifacts at tile boundaries.

See image : pattern_80_0_no artefact.png

Actual result : Subtle seam artifacts appear at tile edges when using rotation (e.g., 135°) at 100% scale, and become more pronounced below 100% scale.

Thank you for your help :)

You list your Photoshop version as 27.1, is that correct?

If so, there have been several updates to Photoshop including the latest 27.6, so you should update Photoshop by going to Help>Updates within Photoshop and then check if the issue is still present.
