Question

"Select Subject" no subject found

I just updated from Photoshop 2025 to Photoshop 2026 (27.0.0). If I want to use the tool Select Subject, a loading bar appears, but shortly after it says "No subject found, that could be selected" (self translated from german language). It's happening with all images, even if the subject is very clearly visible. What's happening? Is this a bug?

What I found out so far:

- after changing the settings of "Select Subject and Remove Background" in Settings from Device to Cloud, it's working. But it's not working with device.

- I have no GPU driver issues, I'm using a new computer with Windows 11

- GPU driver is correctly shown in settings (Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (INTEL))

- when I untick the checkbox for "use graphics processor", there is no difference, Select Subject is not working with Device settings

Happening to me as well - it's as if Adobe disabled device processing on v27 to force people to use cloud processing and improve their AI with data received... It's working perfectly fine for the same image for my coworker who did not update to v27.

Hi @default94qssmbxg8az — see my screenshot on using “Device” with Select Subject. Can you check to see if the plus (+) sign for “Add to selection” is active before making your selection? Because if the minus (-) sign is selected, I get the error message “Couldn't find a subject to select. There might not be prominent objects in the image.” That does seem to be a type of bug. (Windows 11 Pro; Photoshop 27.0.0 Release).
