Select Subject not working anymore

It's been a weird week for my Photoshop workflow. This was all working as of week, but just started acting up over the last couple days. Running 27.0.0, on 2024 ROG Strix 64Mb RAM with a GeForce RTX 4060. I have cloud and stable settings turned on, and haven't made any changes to system other than standard updates in over a month, Except updating to Ps 2026 (V 27.0.0) Graphics drivers are up to date.
Select subject just selects the whole canvas... switching to Device Mode does nothing. This was all working perfectly fine last week, is this an update issue, should I just roll it back and wait for the Adobe boffins to sort things?

Hi @GhostPROD, thanks for reaching out!
I gave it a try on my end but couldn’t reproduce the issue. Could you share a screen recording of what’s happening? That might help us spot what’s going on.
Also, does this happen with a specific file, or is it more of a general issue? When you tested in both versions of Photoshop, were you using the same image each time?
One more thing to double-check, are you on the correct layer? If the background or a different layer is selected, sometimes “Select Subject” ends up selecting the whole canvas instead.

@Aleke Using the same file, in both instances... 26.11.1 works, 27.0.0 doesn't. Yes I'm on the same layer, this a regular part of my workflow that do dozens to hundreds of times a week and I tried it on multiple artboards with the same artwork at different sizes. The artwork was in a group on artboard.

Thanks for getting back to us! As Alek mentioned, if you're able to reproduce the issue and screen record it, that would help us try to replicate it on our end. Also, could you please send us your System Information? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. Thanks! ^CH

Not sure if related, but the Object Selection Tool has been crashing a lot lately too.

Rolled back to 26.11.1 Selction tool works fine. I'll hold off on using PS 2026 until the next update. My team was also having issues with accessing the new AI models, so not sure if this one was ready for primetime.
