Selection brush operates in Dissolve Mode - how can I change it to normal mode?

Hi there, my selection brush seems to be what is called "Dissolve mode" for the standard brushes. For these I can switch the tool mode, but for the selection brush I cannot see this option. It is a fresh install on my new Mac Mini, so on this machine it never worked as I know it from my former Windows system.

 

How can I turn this of and use the standard mode?

Have you tried a full preference reset? I can't think of any setting that would do what you show, but the preferences saved contain more than just user settings and if they are corrupt, which could happen even on a new install, can lead to very strange behaviour. It is worth a try.

I've tried this and your tipp was golden. Thanks a lot! Since it was a fresh PS installation on the Mac, I have no clue, were this problematic preset came from... I've saved my Adobe Photoshop 2025 Prefs.psp file. So I can investigate further. THANK YOU!

    Hopefully this posting had been overseen and there's a simple solution. As this the selection bruch is hardly usable and I really can't see how to fix it. Any ideas?
