Thank you so much for your detailed feedback and recommendations!

I appreciate the advice regarding the GPU drivers. I did attempt to install the NVIDIA Studio Driver, but unfortunately, it didn’t resolve the issue. I’ll make sure to try the clean installation process again and ensure that all remnants of old drivers are completely removed.

I’ll also adjust the RAM allocation in Photoshop to 70-75% as suggested, and monitor the scratch drive space closely. I’ll ensure to check the available space while Photoshop is still running to avoid any issues.

Finally, I’ll increase the cache levels to 6 to see if that improves performance with large files.

Thanks for posting the system info. A few comments:

a. The good news is that your GPU details look fine, with no conflict with any integrated GPU. The drivers are also recent, although you might want to check whether you are using NVidia's Studio driver or the 'Game Ready' driver. I would always choose the Studio driver and on installation choose the Advanced options and Clean install to ensure that remnants of old drivers are overwritten.
b. You might want to reduce the % RAM available to Photoshop to 70-75%. Although that might sound counter-intuitive, Photoshop will take all teh RAM it is allowed to use and it is important to leave enough for other applications (and the operating system).

c. You have 299GB free space on your scratch drive. That may not be enough if you are working with very large files. When you experience a slow down, take a look at how much free space there is on the scratch volume at that time (don't close Photoshop before doing this as that will release the scratch space). If this is your only drive, then the operating system and Photoshop will be using free space. Photoshop continuously swaps RAM and scratch space, hence the importance of a fast disk with plenty of space, particularly when working with large multi-layered files.

d. If by large files you mean huge pixel dimensions (e,g Gigapixel images) you might want to try increasing the cache levels, in Preferences Performance, from it's default 4 to say 6 and see if that helps.

@Olivier36696143bdp3 try sending @Sameer K a PM, he's an Adobe employee that helps out on the Photoshop forum

No issues here working with large files on either of the following systems:

Desktop i9-10920X, 256GB RAM, RTX3090, 2 NVMe drives (one of which is used for scratch) and several SSD drives for storage.
Laptop i7-10870H, 32GB RAM, RTX3070, 1TB NVMe drive. This smaller system works well provided that enough free space is maintained on the drive.

@Olivier36696143bdp3 Can you go to Photoshop's Help > System info click Copy and paste the info here. It may help spot something on your set up. One of the biggest influences, when working with large files, is the space and speed on the drive(s) you use for scratch disk. Ideally this would be a NVMe drive with at least 500GB free.

Do you know how to export a complete diagnostic file to Adobe support for analysis? I think it would be helpful to provide them with all the details of the issues I’m experiencing.

In my experience, contacting Adobe support and getting professional follow-up is very complicated. I’ve already dealt with this when I worked as a Creative Director at a large communication agency.

We contacted them about a major data export issue related to a massive library, and there was no proper follow-up.

We ended up talking to multiple people who kept asking the same questions over and over.

And let me tell you, our monthly Adobe bill was more than hefty!

I’m not familiar with Affinity Photo, but thank you for sharing. I will definitely give it a try, especially with the 6-month free trial.

What really bothers me, though, is paying a high price for the Adobe Creative Suite only to experience constant frustrations and be unable to use what I’ve paid for. What’s the next step?

Should I leave Adobe altogether?
