Shadows and Highlights Slider Jittery?

I am having some trouble with the Shadows and Highlights slider in Photoshop 26.8.1.  Previously I could make adjustments smoothly to the left and right with the slider and see the effects from this. The slider now seems to jump in increments not allowing me to see subtle changes, but chunks of big differences which isn't helpful when wanting to finesse an adjustment.  Is there something I need to try to fix this?  Thanks very much for your help.

    @Linns2 just tested on my system with version 26.8.1 on Windows 10 and the sliders are working fine for me, try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

    Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

    Thank you Ged. I think it's better now.  I reset the preferences and I had to go back to a previous version  for some of the settings but it seems to be working now. I appreciate you helping me out.
