Since when is a Smart Object layer considered an empty selected area?

First of all, you can't nudge text layers? Since when?

 

I can SORT OF live with that, although it's infuriating honestly.

 

But even after converting the layer to a Smart Object I can't nudge it? 🐞  🐛  🐜  🪲

 

Inexcusable.

Of course one can nudge Type Layers and Smart Objects – but Selections do not apply to either so deselect before nudging them. 

 

Edit: If you need the Selection later on you can save it as a Channel or use Quick Mask Mode to store it temporarily while nudging by selecting the composite channel.
