Smart objects ( non raw files) opening in ACR not in new tab.

Ive got jpegs and tiff files that as smart objects. Double clicking on the smart object opens in ACR rather than as a new tab in photoshop, so effectively I cant edit the smart object (want to remove a person). Is there a setting for this behaviour somewhere?

Correct answer Gixxxa75

Seems to be issue with  the "open as smart layers" from lightroom. If I go "edit in photoshop" from lightroom then drag it into the.psb file I want to add it to the double click opens it up as a tab not in ACR. Thats using the same file.

OK the work around if anyone else has this problem seems to be to rastorize the layer and then reconvert to a smart object. Then it will open as a tab rather than in ACR

When placing JPEG and TIFF files, do you see the ACR window? You may need to change the Camera Raw Preferences > File Handling. Try with Automatically open JPEGs with settings or Disable JPEG support, which is not recommended, as you won't be able to open JPEG files in ACR.

My guess is that your files have ACR settings, in other words, the files have been opened and adjusted in ACR without exporting them. The Done button was used to confirm changes and exit.

Hi Bojan

Files were scans from silverfast 9, imported into lightroom then I used contextual menu in lightroom to "open as smart object layers" in photoshop (no ACR window). Have tried disabling jpeg and tiff support in ACR and still the same.
