Something for the weekend - Part 121 - A place in the sun!

Thanks to all who took part in last week's playing card challenge. This week, as the weather gets colder here in the North, I thought we might go somewhere warm, very warm! So here we have a sandy desert, what will you make with it?

The “rules”:

  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

To download the image below at 3840 x 2160 pixels, with an embedded ICC colour profile (sRGB), hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Do we see an oasis or is it another mirage?

“Dan can't you see that big green tree where the waters runnin' free

And it's waiting there for me and you? Water, cool water.”

I'll be singing that all night now Jane. The horse and rider fit well in the scene.

Me too!

I first learned this song when I was six, then there was a gap until I listened again a decade or so ago and realized he and Dan never found the water. 😔

Dean, that will be the Nile river just behind that line of trees I'm thinking, and that grassy bank on the left will be an ittigation ditch.  If Dave had allowed us to use more pixels, we'd have been able to see the donkey on a stick pumping water out of the river and into the ditch.

I was thinking about what the shadow areas were - maybe remnants of a dust storm.

It’s seems Dave’s sand dunes have moved to Florida.

Moderate/warm temperature most times.

They fit rather well don't they, with the bonus that it is easier to get a drink 🙂 Nice job blending them together K

Dave, a bit late, just before seeing your post, I had decided to add this:

The sand horse awakening and smelling the water may worry the palms.

I thought about this and about the fact that the sand dunes said ice cream to me, and realised I can look at pretty much anything and think of ice cream. 😞

Now that was subtle, Trevor; and exquisite.

Dave, like I said, it is a classic moment in cinema history — the first time we see Omar Sharif in the film Lawrence of Arabia.  I can understand why a lot of people would not get the reference, as the film was released in 1962.  An incredible 58 years ago.

Rafael,

Love your image composite!

It reminds me growing up. We had that framed print.

K, thank you very much for the kind words. Christina's World is one of my favorite paintings by Wyeth. He was originally from Pennsylvania, where I have been living for the last 40 years. He is a local hero, of course. When I was still actively employed, I worked with a relative of his, which increased my interest in his work.
