Something for the Weekend - Part 160 - Stay sharp!

Hi,

Thanks to all who took part in our last 'elevator' challenge, there were some great ideas and images.

This week we start with a safety pin. What can you make with this simple object?

The “rules”:

* Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc

* Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum "regulars".

* There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

* The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the image below at full size, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). On opening, you should also find a path in the paths panel should you wish to use it to create a mask.

When posting back your image – please use the blue reply button in this first post. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun

Dave

That's brilliant, @TheOriginalGC !

The only one I know by name is Ira Hayes on the far left — the whiskey drinking Indian and the marine that went to war. This memorial is twenty minutes from my house.

EDIT: In case anyone doesn't know the song, I should add that those words are not mine — they are from The Ballad of Ira Hayes by Peter La Farge (also sung by Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and others).

Another one requiring a large health and safety warning notice 🙂

"and thank you for being kind to us by providing the clipping path!"

If only I had of known that before making a selection with the Pen Tool 🤣

Turn the safety pin into a brush and use a bit of brush symmetry..........

Beautiful Dave.  Can you link to your Tech Wednesday video on using symmetry with work paths if there are no NDAs involved?  That will blow a few minds I am thinking.  We got to five pages with the Elevator SFTW, so I'm hoping there are some ideas being worked on.  I flat out cheat if I am running dry, and Google something like Cool things to do with safety pins.

It's the ideas that are the hardest part.  Selections are so easy now.  Even in the four and a bit years since you put the first SFTW thread up January 2018 (was it a coincidence that happened in the first week of that year?).  It's not just the new tools, although Select Subject is like a magic trick, and the Object Selection tool is pretty slick, I am also convinced that Select & Mask has improved dramatically.  I feel like I have a black belt in Sensei — I could wander around Central Park in the dead of night with my laptop, just waiting for a difficult selection to try and mug me — Charlse Bronson, with his sock full of quarters, would have nothing on me.  But the truth is, _anyone_ can do it now.

Cheers Trevor. I'll have to look and see if I can find that recording.

Hopefully, there is plenty of scope with the pin for ideas to come forward.

Clever!  I like the way you have included the handgrip on the section the pins in each hand.

...plus the chipping of the ice is a nice touch.

About a million years ago, when a person had to run along in front of the new fangled motor vehicles waving a red flag, and Thomas Edison had not yet stollen the electric light bulb from Lewis Latimer, us motoring enthusiasts learned our stuff from magazines like Motorcycle Mechanics.  A recurring theme in that magazine (we'd have called it a meme but they were yet to be invented) was that when you broke down, you need only look in the gutter, or on the grass verge, and you'd be rewarded with the very bits you needed to affect a repair.   This is an honest Injun true story.

Nice idea Trevor. Nowadays though, do we not have to add a health and safety warning even bigger than the image 🙂

Ha! I used to have a blow dryer (for hair) whose tag said "DO NOT USE IN BATHTUB."  I mean you have to wonder what happened to necessitate that.
