Something for the weekend - Part 223 - A close shave!

Hi,

Thanks to all who took part in our lighthouse challenge.

Regular participants will know that I tend to alternate our starter images between scenes and objects. So, for this weekend, we have an object in the form of a shaving brush. What can you make with it?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). I've already put it on a transparent background, to save you time masking.

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave

I thought I'd play around with some parametric filters, just for the hallibut.

A clever idea, that's how they grow shaving brushes initially. Jill showed us early what they look like at harvest time 🙂

I like that James. A lot going on and having the roots at the top works well.

Our recent cruise up the Norway coast ended at the northernmost point - Nordkapp, 71 degrees north - where the land is barren tundra. I found where these brushes are grown - along the road between Honningsvåg and Nordkapp. Some of them look ready to be harvested.

It must be the same season as the catching of the Scottish wild haggis!

No, haggis season is late December just in time for Burns night in January.

Shave and a haircut — and a beer — two bits!

I love the wood grain and the bristles, Dave, and thank you for the transparency!

A most subtle transition from text to background, Jane. Foams for a mixed taste?
