Something for the Weekend - Part 253 - One hundred and eighty!

Thanks to all who participated in our previous, Halloween based, challenge. There were some great ideas and images shared. This week we have something different.

'One hundred and eighty', the highest score with three darts, became famous for the way it was called out by Russ Bray, a professional referee with a unique style to his declaration of the score. So this week, I bring you three darts (actually a 3D render). What will you make with them, 180 or something else entirely?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • The challenge is not limited to Photoshop. Any Adobe software can be used.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). It is rendered with a transparent background so no need to create an initial mask.

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Nice atmosphere in that one, Miroslava. Welcome back to SFTW, we've not seen you here for a while. 🙂

Here's my creation! I aimed to make the tentacles resemble the darts, but I struggled with that (any advice would be greatly appreciated!). I started by creating an image on Firefly and was prompted to create an octopus in the style of Salvador Dali's surrealism. I then added a crown made of darts, along with a big "180" on the forehead.

Free Transform Warp would be an easy way to make the dart curl like a tenticle.

Take it a step further:  Remove the point and FT > warp > Flag the rest of the dart. Make a coiled path and stroke it with a brush that has size jitter set to Fade. Do that once with grey, and then again on a new layer with a smaller brush using white.  Blur the white a wee bit and merge giving it depth.   You could increase contrast to give it some shine.

BTW Fade works in the same direction that the path is created, so you need to start the path at the fat end.

Something about the color and shape of the flights on the darts made me think of a Rolodex.

That is a new take on the starter objects, Myra, and very well done!

It's either a weapon or, to me, would suit a set of strings for the new lead guitarist in the jellyfish band.

Seems too happy to be a weapon.
