Something for the weekend - Part 39 - A shave and a haircut !

Hi,

After last weekend's break to focus on the forum banner challenge, the deadline for which has been extended*, this week we return to a normal Something For The Weekend challenge.

I therefore bring to you the SFTW Gentlemen's Barber Shop, which is actually a 3D scene I modelled over the last few days. I got the idea from an image Dag posted a couple of weeks ago. What will you do with it? Will you make it a scene from Sweeney Todd, or the Barber of Seville, or Hair..... ? Or will you do something else entirely?

As always, anything goes as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.

Anyone is welcome to have a go - whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.

There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun.

When posting back your edited images please use jpeg and downsize to 1200px on the long side.

To download the image below in jpeg format with ICC color profile (sRGB) and without the forum scaling artefacts , right click and then use Save Image As /Save Target As (or similar depending on your browser).

Have fun

Dave

I had to look carefully Jacob - but now I see it - the ghost in the mirror at midnight

Dave,

I really like the mirrored mirror on the opposite unseen wall which doubles the mirroring of the clock so the mirrored clock is unmirrored.

And I hoped the size and position would be within the believable range for a customer in a chair.

The toughest decision was the level of ghosting, hopefully between too faint and too obvious.

Wonderful. The Peel Off Filter is probably the most asked-about feature in Photoshop, really useful for things like removing glare or revealing blacked-out text. The next time someone asks (which won't be long), I'll just point them to this...

I used the Panos Page Curl Action, which  is super-easy to apply.

I love that one Rista ! What did you do to get the painted effect on the image?

Dave, thank you.

Applied a texture, the vertical streaky things, then a Topaz Impression vanGogh filter at low opacity, turned the background greener and the singers bluer.

At least those were the basic steps left after all the misguided ones were eliminated.

I wondered whether there are Barbershop Quartets anywhere except in the US.  I have never seen one myself.  They mostly seem to appear at competitions these days.

Dave, it's getting seriously difficult to tell that this isn't a carefully arranged and well-lit photograph. This is rapidly getting to be almost as interesting in itself, as what people do with it. I'm impressed. But don't let the real estate agents get their hands on this...

making images like this takes someone that cares about their work so I would not worry about real estate agents

Hi,

Another set of great entries.

Rista - I love the little touches. The small robot with the clothes brush and the digital clock. Being ultra picky the clock reflection should be the right way round as it is a reflection of a reflection. But that really is a small thing

Jerry - Excellent casino. I love the idea of the night time conversion. Just one thing, again being pedantic, the perspective at the top of the sliding doors should run the other way

Edit - Jerry has since update the image with much better doors. Now I can go into the Casino

I'm only being this picky because I know how good you guys are!

Jane - thank you. The scene took longer than I intended but the model was based on a few photos I found on-line, of a real barber shop.  I kept finding extra details to model and add.

Chana - that shop obviously belongs to Sweeney Todd's brother, the chiropodist!

Great images - please keep the coming!

We always wondered why the lights at the local barber shop often stayed on until 3:00 am

Edit: A different perspective

What a great start to the weekend.

UssNorway - If he is using that blade for shaving then I hope he has a steady hand.

OldBob - I hope I don't have the following appointment. It looks like that one could over-run.

Jerry - I think I've been to that one !

Keep them coming - all are welcome.
