Since the last update of Photoshop and Illustrator spacebar and move doesn't work anymore.
The hand shows up when I press space but when I left click it doesn't move around.

I signed in to say thank you, I've been unable to use the spacebar to scrub around my canvas for months if the image was zoomed all the way out, and zooming in just to move the picture around was frustrating.

I am aware that you need to be zoomed in.

I closed all programs, even those in the background.

I started my computer in safe mode but even then the problem persists.

Is there a way to assign my middle mouse button to drag. That wood be a good solution for me?

I just found the problem. Well not really, but I got the solution.
I put my mouse in another USB and that fixed the problem.

    Thanks for the help

Ah-ha! Thanks for checking back with your solution.

I'm not aware of any way to switch the temporary hand tool from Spacebar. However, if you press and hold the "H" key the hand tool will become temporary. Neat part about that is the view zooms out while you position the zoom. Makes shifting the view really quick if you happen to do a lot of detailed work zoomed way in...

    Try resetting the Photoshop preferences:

    • Manually; safe, can be undone:

    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/how-to-reset-photoshop-cs6s-preferences-file/

    • Quick; cannot be undone:

Win: Press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift immediately after initiating Photoshop's startup. A box will appear asking if you want to continue with the reset, select "yes." If you don't see this, you weren't fast enough...Try again.

Mac: Press and hold Cmd+Opt+Shift then start Photoshop. A box will appear, asking if you want to continue with the reset, select "yes."

If that doesn't work, do you have any other programs/processes which could be snagging the Spacebar input before Photoshop?

Didn't work. I have no idea. The thing is that the hand tool shows when I press space but just can't move.
    I'm running windows btw...

The handtool does work when I select it.

Very interesting. Add a type layer and see if the Spacebar works correctly.

Which way did you reset your preferences? If the quick way, did you see this dialog?
