I’m not sure if resetting starting point of Erase tool is a bug or lack of feature.

As far as i can tell, it’s never worked in Photoshop, at least in Photoshop 6.0.1 (circa 2001) and newer.

You can, however, in Photoshop go to Edit>Preferences>Tools, check Zoom with Scroll Wheel and then you can zoom in/out with the Eraser Tool active just by using the scroll wheel and don’t even have to let go of the Shift key and you can also move around the image by pressing the space bar.

I guess the reason it doesn’t work with the Eraser Tool is that pressing the Alt key while using the Eraser is shortcut to Erase to History.

What version of Photoshop and operating system are you using?

The painting tools including the Eraser should still Shifty+click for a straight line after zooming in or out.

How are you zooming between clicks?

Newest on Windows 11. I’m using alt + scroll wheel.
