Stuck on "green" for color mode - fill tool is only making grey, black, and white now [2019]

Idk what I did but now the image displays the word "green" at the top and now the paint bucket and any form of drawing just comes out grey white or black. Could anyone tell me what I did and how to fix it?

 

On Mac, latest version of PS.

Below is an explanation of how you likely obtained the word "green" on the tab, as shown in your screenshot. Click on RGB in the Channels panel to resolve the issue.

something similar is happening to me,  fill color shows black but as soon as I apply it it comes as dark grey.

Look at the Channels palette and you'll see the problem.

    Check Color Mode from Image > Mode > if you are in Grayscale mode click on RGB Color.

    It is on RGB color but still has the same issue, just says green at the top like in related image.
