Stylization of entire photo with generative fill

When the year generative fill was offered, many content creators offered methods of creating painting and other artistic effects either through quick masking and filling or creating an alpha channel and filling. But in more recent versions this feature doesn’t work for me. I tried generative fill directly, but got very weak effects.

Does this feature still work? If so, how? I don’t care for the look of neural filters and found the AI approach more interesting than the legacy artistic filters.

    @Missbee The technique, using the 30% selection, works with Firefly 1 and 5. It does not work with Firefly Fill and Expand which works differently. I tried all three in PS v27.9.1.

    It works but, when you click on generative fill, you will need to change the model from ‘Firefly Fill and Expand’ to either ‘Firefly Image 5’ or ‘Firefly Image 1’. Then use a prompt and click Generate.

      Dave, thanks so much for your reply. I tried this, both using “select all” and then trying the quick mask, fill 30 percent, unmask and generate sequence.

      The “select all option gave me only the Firefly Image 5 option, which “painted’ the background somewhat, but not the subject. Using mask and fill gave me both Firefly options, but no effect at all on the image.

      I was using a clear image of a bluebird, with the prompt “watercolor.” 

      So closer, but not the images I got a few years ago when the technique was first introduced.

      Ah, got the effect with select all and Gemini 3. Guess Adobe now needs us to spend money.
