Question

Suddenly Photoshop is creating new files as artboards

Yesterday everything was as usual in Photoshop… today when I create a new file it automatically creates an artboard with a layer. I don’t want that. I can’t figure out how to stop it from happening. I know I can create a new layer in the Layers panel and then delete the artboard but that’s just an extra step. Is it me, or is this something new in Photoshop?

    Suddenly? As in, after upgrading?

What’s your version of Ps? Does Ps open in what I call “Home mode”?

When you open a New file, is Artboard the Document Type?

Oh, that’s what’s happening! Today I created a new file and chose Web as the type, which I’ve neve done before. Usually I choose Custom or Film & Video. I just went thru the different types and it seems Web is the only one that defaults to an artboard.

whew, I’m glad that was an easy fix :-P

    Thanks for your help.

Just FYI, the artboard setting can always be changed for any new document preset type, as shown in the picture below. So you can always set Artboards either way regardless of which document type you are using, and also when you make your own custom preset.
