When using the Pen Tool in Photoshop 2025 on macOS 15.3:
1. Select Pen Tool
2. Uncheck "Target Path" in the options bar
3. Click once to add the first anchor point
4. Observe that "Target Path" automatically becomes checked again

This occurs even with tool presets saved with it unchecked and after preference resets or restarts.

Expected behavior: Checkbox should remain off until manually re-enabled.

Hi @romantic_hearted4619, Thank you for reaching out.

Please share more details so that we can investigate this. Please copy and paste your system configuration from Help> System Info into a text file and attach it to your response. Additionally, a screen recording or relevant step-by-step screenshots of the workflow and its results would be incredibly helpful. You can share via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another public file-sharing platform with your response.

In the meantime, please feel free to go ahead and try out the steps below.

Try resetting the Pen tool. If that doesn't work, try resetting all tools:

  • Right-click (or Control-click) the Pen Tool icon in the Options Bar at the top of the screen.
  • From the dropdown menu, choose: "Reset Tool" – to reset only the Pen Tool, or "Reset All Tools" – to reset all tools to their default settings.

Try resetting your preferences: Corrupted preferences can cause all sorts of odd behavior. It is recommended that you back up your preferences before resetting them. This HelpX article provides steps and more information on Preferences in Photoshop.

Let us know how it goes!

Cheers!

Noel
