In the previous version of Photoshop, v26xxx when you used the "Open as OpenColorIO" feature, you could properly open an AcesCG file and it would look correct. However in v27xxx this feature is not behaving properly. I'm using the same steps as in v26 but the result when it open is completely wrong. It is either broken or the behavior and how to use this tool has changed. Can you please verify?
It looks like a version-specific issue in Photoshop 27. The Open as OpenColorIO workflow is behaving differently because the OCIO settings and display transform aren’t being applied the same way as in v26.
A quick fix that works for most users is:
1. Go to Edit → OpenColorIO Settings
Make sure your OCIO config is set correctly (ACES 1.3 or your custom config) and Working Space = ACEScg.
2. Re-open the file using:
File → Open As → Open as OpenColorIO → Input Color Space = ACEScg
If it still looks wrong, it’s usually the display/view transform not being applied. In that case, the workaround is to temporarily convert the EXR outside Photoshop (ACEScg → sRGB) and then reopen it.
So yes — v27 changed behavior, but setting the correct OCIO config or applying the view transform manually fixes the issue until Adobe patches it.
