Question

The Photoshop interface slows down a lot

Hi. When editing even simple PSDs, the program interface slows down a lot. For example, I want to edit the text and the reaction is quite long. It takes a couple of seconds for the text editing elements to appear. How can I fix this?
At the same time, PC resources are free, and the document is no more than 300mb.

PS 26.5.0

i7 4771 / RX 580 8gb / DDR3 24GB / SSD Sata 3 / Windows 10 / The efficiency is 100% (in PS)

300MB doesn't tell us much about the image you are working on.

What is its size in pixels?
How many layers does it have?
What is its bit depth?

Is this the only image that is causing performance issues?

 

How many drives do you have and what are your Scratch Drive arrangements?  How much free space on that drive?

Check the root directory of your primary Scratch drive, and look at the size of the Photoshop Temp files.  These can be tens of gigerbytes, and a slow drive can really slow things down.  I've got bugger all open, and still have >20GB of scratch files.

Photoshop is really bad at letting that space go. Even Purge > All won't clear it. You have to restart Photoshop to make it happen.

 

Your system spec is OK, but not great.  I would expect some wait states with more complext projects with higher pixel sizes.

 

You can use Resource Monitor (Task Manager > Performance) to look for bottle necks.

Start a task that slows down Photoshop, and toggle through CPU, Memory, GPU, Drive(s)

Have a special look at your drive(s)

I looked at the resource monitor and saw no problems.
The work with the document itself is adequate. It's the program interface that's slowing me down.

Do you see the performance problems on all images that you're opened edited?

I don't have any ideas at the moment.  Try to go back to Photoshop 26.4/26.4.1 and check if it's better.

Try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

It's recommended to backup your settings before resetting the preferences.

If this doesn't help, try to disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

Take a look especially point 7 in the "Troubleshoot GPU and Graphics driver" section.

 

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

 

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

 Reset the preference — did not help.

Disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" — did not help.

The entire system has the latest updates.

As far as I see in the system info the device driver for your graphic card is very old. Please check the manufactor's site to a recent version of the driver.
