Question

The service is not responding....

I am getting an error that others have reported when using the remove tool and AI. The error is "The service is not responding. Please check your internet connection and try again." I have followed all of the recommendations for changing preferences. My internet connection is solid. I'm using a brand new laptop and the latest version of PS. I don't know what else to change. Please advise.

    Hi @ColoDave,

This exact error with the Remove tool and AI features was previously troubleshooted with Adobe staff, and the confirmed steps are documented here: https://community.adobe.com/questions-712/generative-ai-the-service-is-not-responding-1167559

The official troubleshooting steps are these — worth trying in order:

    1. Confirm your internet connection is working normally (you've already done this).

    2. Try a different network path — e.g. a mobile hotspot — or a VPN, to check whether the error only happens on your regular network.

    3. Check DNS resolution of Adobe's AI service endpoints. In a case confirmed with Adobe support, the user's DNS servers weren't resolving the Firefly endpoints, and switching DNS servers resolved it. (Adobe staff advise checking with your network administrator before changing DNS on a managed network.)

    4. Make sure your firewall — local and network — allows Adobe's required domains.

Since both you and @StefanKlein report a solid connection, steps 2–4 are the most relevant. I can't guarantee a fix, but these are the staff-confirmed steps for this exact symptom. If they don't help, posting your exact Photoshop version, OS, and whether the error also happens on a different network would help narrow it down.

I`m getting that error very often. And it´s not only the remove tool, but probably each and every A.I. function.Pretty annoying, if you need to finish a job. My internet is perfect.

This error from a bit of research usually comes from network-level blocks preventing the app from connecting to Adobe's generative AI servers, even if your general internet connection is good.

I few things I found I’ll post here

Test with a VPN or Mobile Hotspot

A different network route overrides your default router restrictions, firewall settings, and internet provider's routing limitations.
Close Photoshop via Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac), turn on a VPN or connect to your phone's mobile hotspot, and relaunch Photoshop.

    Change Your DNS Provider

Change your device's DNS network settings to a fast, public provider:
    Cloudflare DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    Unblock Critical Firefly Domains

Local antivirus software, Windows Defender, Mac Firewall, or network routers may be actively blocking Adobe's incoming/outgoing data packets.
Ensure your firewall or network administrator allows traffic to these mandatory endpoints:
    firefly.adobe.io
    firefly-clio-imaging.adobe.io
    *.ff.adobe.io (specifically di-me.ff.adobe.io and di-imaging.ff.adobe.io)

    Can you tell us
Which operating system are you running (Windows 11, macOS Sequoia, etc.)?
Did connecting to a mobile hotspot or VPN temporarily fix the error?

Cheers hopefully something here helps narrow down what’s going wrong. They are troubleshooting steps so whatever works will narrow down the specific fix for you.
