There is a major bug with PS zoom tool after exiting Filter > Liquify

There is a major bug with PS zoom tool after exiting Filter > Liquify.  Its been broken for ages.  After using liquify and exiting, the zoom tool is completley broken, or its still stuck in the liguify filter stage.  You cant even navigate your image space, pan and zoom are completley broken.  Screen flickers, nothing responds correctly.  Its been this way for iterations, btw.  Im just finally so frustrated I have to come here.  Is anyone even aware of this?  Ive had this on multiple PC's and multiple yearly iterations of PS.  Any info to correct this would be huge, as I use liquify daily for notes and its making my life pretty miserable.  The only way to fix is to restart PS, but the problem comes right back after using liquify once, or twice.

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?

(read this entire post before acting please)

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

Here’s some info on how to do that:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Manually removing preferences files is the most complete method for restoring Photoshop to its default state:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Note re macOS: The user Library folder is hidden by default.

To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see here for how to access hidden user library files.

https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html

Unexpected behavior may indicate damaged preferences. Restoring preferences to their default settings is a good idea when trying to troubleshoot unexpected behaviors in Photoshop. check out the video

And here’s an earlier forum discussion as an aid to understanding

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Here is general info about that:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#BackupPhotoshoppreferences

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

Preferences file locations: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html\

[on MacOS see: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Note for those on macOS: - be aware that the user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.

  https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html

In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key.

Library will now appear in the list - below the current user's “home” directory. ]

Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe as a back-up of your settings.

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

(See above about preserving preferences though! Its worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.

I hope this helps

I can certainly try that, but I doubt that's it.  This is happening on multiple machines of varying load-outs.  It happens on my home PC as well.  I don't think this is isolated to a few rare things, I mean it is broken.  This has been an issue with PS for years on end and its never been addressed.

Can we get someone to please look into this?  It's a real problem and a giant headache to use Photoshop in this condition.  I've tolerated it in the past, but due to notes and art direction I am using liquify more and more and it's making me hate this application.

To me, I feel like when you close liquify PS gets stuck in the liquify screen and it breaks zoom and pan.  This is really easy to replicate.  Use Liquify multiple times, use it, close it, and repeat.  Eventually after the 3-7th time its gonna break.

I don't have a solution to this but I'm here to chime in I've had the same issue for years as well.

Hi @Jason25310973bqtf sorry to hear this.

Try the following:

  1. Go to Preferences/Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas" - Restart Photoshop.
  2. If you hold down the Alt key when you select Filter > Liquify... does it work correctly without crash?

Thank you,

Cory

Unfortunately, this does not fix the issue.  I have now tried this on multiple work machines with varying setups.  Liquify just completely breaks pan and zoom once you exit.  Upon closing Liquify on average, you might get pan and zoom to work two to three times.  Then it becomes unusable and you have to close and open PS to get it to behave properly.    If you try to hold space to zoom it just flickers and bounces all over the screen.  If you try to zoom, it's wildly inaccurate.  My guess is PS still thinks it's in the liquify tool.
