Hi I'm trying to opened scanned images saved as pdf files in photoshop in my iPad.  I can do it on my windows machine but need to do it on my iPad. Photoshop can see the images of the scanned pdfs but they are just greyed out thumbnails. They will not open.  Am I missing something?

You might not be missing anything, because I tried it with a scanned PDF I have and I get the same result: From the Import and Open button in Photoshop on iPad, the PDF icons are not selectable.

My guess is that being able to open a PDF file is one of those features that works great in Photoshop on Windows and macOS, but isn’t yet available in the iPad version of Photoshop.

If you are working only on the iPad, then a practical solution is to convert the scanned image from PDF to a pure pixel image format. The basic steps would be:

1. On the iPad, open the scanned PDF in any iPad application that can both read PDF and also export in image formats.

2. Export in a format that Photoshop on iPad can open, such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PSD…

3. Have Photoshop open that exported file.

More specific steps that I was able to do on my iPad:

1. Open the scanned PDF file in the Acrobat app for iPad.

2. Tap Export, then tap Image.

3. Tap an image format. I tapped JPEG, but if you want to preserve more of the scanned image quality tap PNG (probably a larger file size).

4. Tap Continue.

5. Tap the Share icon, then tap the Photoshop icon. The exported image copy opens in Photoshop.

Try saving the files to cloud documents (PSDC). That's the format that you can use to access your Photoshop files on your iPad. Here's more info:
