After one of my updates, Photoshop began automatically showing crop marks over the image upon opening the file. Very irritating. How can I turn this off?

Do you mean you see a crop window when you open a file?

If so, close your open files and change your tool from the Crop Tool to the move tool.

Reopen your files and it shouldn't show until you choose the Crop Tool again.

When i close all my open files the tool bar disapears and it won't come back on until I open a file. Also, with multiple files open and I switch from one then back to the other the crop tool is on. Whoi at Adobe thought this was a good idea? Do they assume every file I open I automatically want to crop it. F No! I've spoke to several colleagues and we all hate it. Please help.

Are you claiming that Photoshop selects the Crop Tool when you switch between open documents?

Could you please post screenshots the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible to illustrate?
