Type Tool is extremely slow

Issue: Photoshop is extremely slow when using the type tool

Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.7.0 20240415.r.504 130b225  x64

Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit

Version: 10 10.0.19045.4412

Steps to reproduce:

Create a new document

Select Type Tool

Click in document to create text box

Begin typing

Expected result: Photoshop should immediately populate text as it is typed or pasted in text box

Actual result: When typing, it takes several seconds for each character to appear. The same happens when pasting. The cursor creeps along when pressing an arrow key. When clicking in a text box, it takes several seconds for the cursor to appear.

* I have ample RAM (32gb), so memory is not the issue. This only started when I updated to version 25.7.0.

Hey, @rendarphil. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Before troubleshooting, update Photoshop 2024 to the latest version (v25.09) via the Creative Cloud desktop app & check if the issue exists.

Try these steps:
Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

HI, Sameer!

I apologize for not responding sooner. I may have missed the notification email that someone had responded.

I have since rolled back and updated Photoshop. I am currectly on the most recent version of Photoshop and removed all previous versions. However, I am still having the same issue with text. Since my original post, I have also added memory to my laptop hoping that would help. When it comes to anything text related, Photoshop just lags horribly.
